Even
after playing fingerstyle guitar for nearly ten years, I still
think it's pretty darn cool that one person can make the bass
and treble notes on one guitar. And to hear these classic
old time players talk about the times they were living in
is like a mini history lesson with each song. When I listen
to Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt, Kenny Sultan, Jorma
Kaukonen, Blind Blake or Pat Donohue fingerpick those old
ragtime and blues tunes it brings a smile to my face. While
I am definitely influenced by those artists and scores of
others, I try to forge my own path musically creating a new
sound with a firm connection to the roots that I love so much.
I hope that listening to my music
makes you as happy as it has made me playing it.

The Kennebunkport Symphony Orchestra never
sounded better than on Live From San Leandro.
The fact that they had never sounded anywhere before should
not diminish this claim. I'm really happy with the effort
everybody gave to make this album possible. From rags to blues
to folk, to places in between, Live From San Leandro
will have your toes tapping and leave you with a smile.

So
I'm playing around with this riff on the harmonica and I ask
a friend of mine what I should call my new "song."
She says, jokingly, "Ode to Byerley" in reference
to the last name of a mutual friend of ours that I had a crush
on. Little did any of us know at the time that Byerley would
eventually be the woman that I would fall in love with and
marry. This album is an ode to Erica Byerley (now Erica Karol),
my wife who I love with all my heart. I hope you enjoy it.
Hey, don't worry. They're not all sappy love songs. Take a
listen and buy one for your friends. Release date: 2002.

The
fingerpicking styles of Mississippit John Hurt, Gary Davis
and Kenny Sultan can be heard on this instrumental guitar
album. More prominently, however, is the fingerpicking style
of Jared Karol. The "Two Happy Ruths" were two girls
that Jack Kerouac met while sojourning in New York City. He
walked around Manhattan with the two happy Ruths. The artwork
was done by elementary school students at Montessori Elementary
School of Pacifica. I hope you enjoy these relaxing instrumentals.
Release date: 2002.

Late Nite Gin - This song was taken
from an earlier album of mine "Tight Lavender Pants"
from 2000. We've all had an experience of staying up
all night drinking gin to mourn the loss of someone
who didn't love us, haven't we?. . .Haven't we? Okay,
well maybe you haven't, but I did, just this once though.

Yogurt & Green Onions
- A guitar instrumental about Kettle Chips. They've got
a nice taste to 'em. I think you can find 'em at places
like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods and other yuppie "health
food" grocery stores. |

Pallet On Your Floor
- This is an old traditional song that has been played
by everyone from Doc Watson to Gillian Welch. This version
is taken from a Mississippi John Hurt live album. I don't
need no fancy bed, just lay me down a pallet on your floor.
. .Recorded live at Bazaar Cafe in February 2002. |

Brokedown - My father
passed away in the fall of 2000. Every once in a while
I would breakdown and cry over the loss. This time it
happened as I was driving to work. Also recorded live
at Bazaar Cafe in February 2002. (Lyrics) |
